PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear neighbors,

Thank you very much to all our youngest neighbors (and their parents and grandparents) who came out to our North Avondale July 4th Bike/Trike & Wagon parade and made it such a fun and special way to kick off the July 4th celebrations. Thank you also to Suzanne and Mark for letting us have the event on their beautiful front porch, to our excellent MC Reg Crutcher, to District 4’s Sergeant Cassandra Lewis for attending the event and kicking off the parade, and finally to the organizing committee (Carolyn Gilman, Caroline Feldhaus, Sara Kaufmann, Marvin Masterson, Charlene Morse, and Maura Wolf) for pulling it all together. We are already looking forward to see you all again next year with even more kids, balloons, and ice-cream!

I am also pleased to announce that North Avondale was awarded a $30,000 grant from this years’ City of Cincinnati Neighborhood Business District Investment Program (NBDIP) for neighborhood signage and branding located in the Dana Triangle. A huge thank you to Maura Wolf for leading and presenting the overall NANA NBDIP grant applications, and to Julie Zimmerman for writing and supporting this particular project. Please let them know how much you appreciate what they do for our neighborhood next time you see them!

And on the more practical front … next week, the City’s neighborhood operations are having a clean-up blitz in North Avondale, which includes street sweeping, green space clean-up, and dumpsters available for residents to use. Please see details in the next column in this newsletter, and take full advantage of the opportunity to have your basement and our common areas cleaned up!

NANA is taking a summer break in July, so there is no meeting this month. We will be back in August with the next general meeting on Tuesday the 11th!

In closing, following the terrible news about the line-of-duty death of Officer Sonny Kim in Madisonville in June, to offer our condolences and to show our appreciation for all the police do for our neighborhood safety every day, Beth Ewing, on behalf of NANA and all residents in North Avondale, delivered sandwich trays to District 4 on June 26th during the funeral.

Have a continued great, hopefully less rainy, summer!

Hanne Loken Larsen
