Dear Neighbors,
The fall leaves and cool air of October have passed and we are putting our gardens to rest. November has arrived and winter is coming. This fall NANA and NABA (North Avondale Business Association) sponsored the Festival of Leaves on a beautiful cool sunny day where neighbors, friends and families came together. They enjoyed food trucks, ice cream, pizza, walking tacos and Kona ice for all! There was also fun for the kids, including the Halloween bouncy castle, pumpkin painting, face painting and a petting zoo. I wanted thank everyone that made the festival a success. A special thank you to Beth Ewing, Carly Stone and Alexandra Schickli for helping organize this special event. There were so many more that contributed a few hours to help, Tricia Renneker, Teresa Harten, Jennifer Harten, Chris and Allison Harten, Victor Williams, Robbert DeJong and Valerie Williams, Charlene Morse, Justin Stone and Remco DeJong. As always, thank you to my husband Walter Koucky for his never ending support. Thank you to everyone who came and supported North Avondale. See pictures below under “Fun In The Neighborhood”.
NANA Board members submitted the Community Budget Requests for FY24/25 with the City of Cincinnati’s Planning Division. The results will be announced in August of 2023. The final projects submitted North Avondale Streetscape, NA Recreation Center Playfields and Playset and a multi-modal transportation center-solar charging center, red bikes and scooters. Also, in October the City announced an extra $85 million budget carryover. While North Avondale was not high on the priority list, the city is considering replacing the playset at the recreation center. Many other neighborhoods may receive substantial considerations for example, a 3.5-million-dollar renovation for Ziegler Park. Please contact your councilmembers and neighbors, Jan-Michelle Kearney, Meeka Owens and Chris Smitherman, (running for Hamilton County Commissioner) and ask them to support North Avondale in these and future funding requests.
The Law and Safety and Zoning committee are hard at work. Carolyn Gillman was successful in closing down the illegal group home at 970 Dana. We suspect that some of the recent house to house solicitations for money will end. In addition, the Zoning committee is busy reviewing another development, Victory Vistas, a proposed Affordable Housing Senior Living facility at Victory Parkway and Asmann. Chinedum Ndukwe, from Kingsley and Company, along with Paddock Hills Trustees and neighbors living near the proposed development were invited to the NANA Executive Board meeting to discuss the plans. More to come on this.
There are so many ways to get involved in our neighborhood. Please consider giving back and volunteering a few hours each month. NANA also asks that each of you add us to your yearly gift giving by visiting the NANA website and making a donation. We need your support to continue making our neighborhood a better place to live and raise our families.
