Summer is coming to an end and fall is arriving. Hopefully, everyone has settled into the new school year and fall sports and has established their new daily routines. This has been a lovely summer full of ever-changing weather, from the exceptionally cool weather in June to the crazy hot days of August. We are looking forward to some beautiful fall days and evenings to enjoy the outdoors with friends and neighbors.
NANA monthly meetings are starting back up after our August break. The September meeting is scheduled for the second Tuesday of the month, September 12, 2023. General meetings start at 6:30PM and run about 1.5 hours. Each meeting will have a business section and then close up on a topic of interest. The September meeting will include our neighbor, Dan Zavon (Rose Hill) with a discussion on Ranked Choice Voting. Dan was first introduced to this concept at a NANA meeting in 1988 and will be sharing some perspectives on equal representation.
October’s meeting on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, will include a presentation by Scott Breloff, a Senior Biomechanical Engineer at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, CDC. Scott and his colleague, Thais Morata (Beechwood) will discuss preventing falls during residential roofing, including injury and fatalities statistics, and the homeowner’s liability. Please come meet your neighbors and learn about these important topics.
Your NANA Board members were hard at work this year resulting in a new North Avondale Recreation Center playset. The new installation is updated with bright and colorful equipment. Stop by and try it out. The final plans include new benches, an updated water fountain, and a sign.
The NANA Social Committee is moving into action and is planning a “Porch Fest” at the end of the month. The Porch Fest will be a fun family-friendly music festival for North Avondale residents to enjoy their time together and promote and improve engagement in the community. Dawn Johnson (Dickson) is leading this effort. If you want to get involved, please reach out to Dawn through the NANA email at nana@northavondalecincinnati.com.
The Zoning Committee has been working on the preliminary stages of the North Avondale Master Plan rewrite. The City of Cincinnati Department of Planning and Economic Development is supporting this effort and will be joining forces soon. The Master Plan team has been working on the existing conditions and history narrative. They have also been engaged in outreach to the community primarily to our community churches as focal points for outreach, survey, and input into our mutual community goals. We are looking for more participation, especially in the areas of long-term planning and outreach. Please reach out to Walter Koucky (Rose Hill) at nana@northavondalecincinnati.com if you are interested in joining this team.
There are so many ways to get involved in our neighborhood. Please consider giving back and volunteering a few hours each month. Use the volunteer sign-up form on the website to check your areas of interest or the committees you’d like to learn more about. NANA also accepts donations through the website here. See you at the General meeting on Tuesday, September 12.
