February is the time for cold slushy weather, however the NANA Board is busy at work planning and preparing for the new year. The annual membership and donation drive brought in over $11,000 which is twice the amount from the previous year. Thank you to all of our members and neighbors for renewing your support of our beautiful neighborhood. This will go a long way towards supporting our efforts to the families and youth of North Avondale.
Please attend our monthly meetings held on the second Tuesday of the month at the North Avondale Recreation Center from 6:30pm-8:00pm. This month our speaker is Wade Johnston, Executive Director of Tri-State Trails. Wade has grown the Tri-State Trails grassroots coalition to a leading advocacy organization for active transportation issues in the Tri-State region. One of the Tri-State Trails’ noteworthy accomplishments has been galvanizing a diverse public-private partnership for the CROWN campaign, a 34-mile urban trail loop around Cincinnati.
In January, NANA sponsored the SKY program for teens from North Avondale, Avondale and Paddock Hills. This program teaches breathing techniques, yoga and meditation to help our youth navigate their day to day lives. The program was well attended and we had great feedback from the teachers and participants.
In February, over the President’s Day Holiday weekend, the program will be offered again for children ages 8-12. This great opportunity, which is free to North Avondale residents, is a engaging way for families to interact with participants from our neighbors in Paddock Hills and Avondale. Look for more information about the few remaining spots we’d like to fill for this upcoming weekend SKY workshop here. If you know of anyone who works with children 8-12 years old or has a family member, please share the info.
There are so many ways to get involved in our neighborhood. This year we will continue our work on the rewrite of the North Avondale Master Plan. The February meeting included Beth Johnson, Executive Director of Cincinnati Preservation Association, as guest speaker. She proved to be a valuable wealth of information for the Master Plan team.
Please consider giving back and volunteering a few hours each month. NANA asks that each of you add us to your yearly gift giving by visiting the NANA website and making a donation. We need your support to continue making our neighborhood a better place to live and raise our families.
