NANA President Dawn Johnson and Walter Koucky spoke with WXIX’s Brenda Ordonez about NANA’s response to Connected Communities. They discussed the Vice Mayor’s task force to address zoning and land-use policies as well as Cincinnati neighborhoods, such as Over-the-Rhine and Columbia Tusculum, currently designated as historic districts. Walter also mentioned the efforts of North Avondale resident Matthew Cornell, who is leading North Avondale’s historic district designation initiative.
Other topics included:
- The expansion of a historic district once designated;
- Efforts to develop a North Avondale Master Plan, which focuses on historic preservation;
- City funds to help offset costs for repairs and renovations, such as replacement windows appropriate for historic homes.
Dawn emphasized NANA’s past and future dedication to inclusion and interest in restoring citizens’ voices: “We are not doing this to block anyone out of our neighborhood. We welcome new residents, we want new homeowners [and to] send the developers a message as far as what our standards are and what is acceptable to us.”
