One of the amazing principles that is part of a Montessori education is that children choose their work and set their pace as they follow their interests and become immersed in their projects. The teacher’s role is to structure an environment that guides and supports the students as they follow their curiosity. This concept is at work in each of the 3 levels at The New School Montessori (3-6), (6-9), and (9-12).
“A picture is worth a thousand words.” I’m sure you will see the pride in these children’s faces as they shared a finished project, measured a chair back and felt a surge of power upon successfully sewing a button on a cuff. Their joy in work can remind us all to swell a bit with pride at our own accomplishments each day!
