Firefighting is a great career with endless possibilities. Applications for new recruits will open in 2025.

The Cincinnati Fire Department has always set standards for firefighting excellence and community service. With quality people, the City government’s support and innovative thinking, the CFD is poised for an exciting future and you can be a part of it.

The department is accepting sign-ups for recruits starting January 2025. Those interested in becoming a Cincinnati Fire Recruit or Cadet can submit their contact information online.

One of the Cincinnati Fire Department’s goals is to fill each position with a well-qualified individual, both interested in the job and committed to a career in that field. To do this, CFD provides each applicant with a realistic description of the job and its tasks, which may include:

  • Rescue and care of victims
  • Fire prevention
  • Hazardous materials containment
  • Community service

Cincinnati Fired Department urges anyone who is interested to consider the entire job of a firefighter. Good customer service skills and continuing education are also required.

To apply, an individual must be 17 years of age and 18 by the appointment date, hold a high school diploma or GED and possess a valid driver’s license. Learn more about requirements here.
