Future community budget requests approved at September general meeting

Every two years, the City of Cincinnati accepts three (3) project requests from each neighborhood council. As part of the last budget cycle, North Avondale received the wonderful upgrades to the North Avondale Recreation Center playfields and tennis courts. This project included a new playset, partial sidewalk, dugouts for the baseball fields, new ADA drinking fountains and restrooms. The tennis courts were completely resurfaced and reutilized to include a pickleball court funded by the City of Cincinnati for North Avondale families and friends.

The following project proposals were voted on and approved at the September NANA General Body meeting and are being finalized to submit to the City for their next budget cycle.

These are the recommendations NANA twill be submitting:

  • A trail connector from Winding Way through the Victory Parkway Greenspace to Xavier to connect to the Wasson Way via Xavier’s campus. This proposal includes a path and a trailhead shelter or pavilion with no access by motor vehicles. The Victory Parkway Greenspace is adjacent to Xavier Sports Complex and campus. Both North Avondale and Xavier have met and discussed the desire for a raised crosswalk on Victory Parkway to allow neighbors and students access to the campus and bike paths and to quiet traffic.
  • General infrastructure improvements to Seasongood Square Park and MLK Park to include irrigation, lighting and security. The Cincinnati Park’s three-year plan and the North Avondale Master Plan update will address these two parks’ overall improvement and connectivity. Greenspace improvements will include the four main corners at Reading and Clinton Springs.
  • Improvements to the North Avondale Recreation Center. This entails adding a new wall inside the multi-purpose room to reduce noise during our monthly meetings as well as a parking lot along Clinton Springs in the green space, speed bumps in the current parking lot, solar lighting and an updated electronic sign to use for announcements.

This request will include the completion of the walking path around the circumference of the playfield and access to North Fred Shuttlesworth Ave. for health and wellness activities. Last year a new walking/bike path has been extended from the school and recreational center lot to the tennis courts. Adding approximately 200 feet of additional resurfacing would allow safe bike access for school children and the community through the recreational center to North Fred Shuttlesworth. A cable currently blocks access to motor vehicles, pedestrians and bikes. A new gate allowing only pedestrians and bike access is needed. Students currently use the neighbor’s yard for access.
