President’s Message – November 2025

There is always light. If only we are brave enough to see it. If only we are brave enough to be it.” – Amanda Gorman

Dear neighbors,

Campaign season has officially wrapped, and while I did not win the council seat this year, I gained something far more meaningful: clarity, connection, and a renewed sense of purpose.

I walked into this season determined to represent our neighborhood with dignity and courage. What I discovered was a community that believes, supports, and shows up. Your encouragement strengthened me. Your belief inspired me. And because of you, I am already preparing for 2027, stronger, wiser, and more determined than ever.

Most importantly, I never stopped being your NANA President.

Not for one moment.

While I was knocking doors, attending forums, and navigating the whirlwind of campaigning, our Executive Board carried the weight with grace. Thank you to every board member who kept our work not only moving, but thriving. I want to especially thank Amy, Shawn, and John for stepping up and being dedicated and supportive leaders. They kept the bus moving forward without missing a beat.

Last month was filled with connection and joy. Neighbors hosted events, our students achieved big things, and our community showed its heart at every turn. We witnessed creativity, pride, and youth leadership in action with projects like the NANA branded spiders that were 3D printed and shared on Halloween. These moments remind us that community is not just something we talk about. It is something we do.

As we enter November, I know that many families in our city and across the country are feeling the effects of the ongoing government shutdown. People are worried about paychecks, groceries, and how to support their families through the unknown. During our meeting today, we will be discussing what we, as a neighborhood association, can do to support those who may be impacted. Kindness is not passive. Kindness is action.

This month also brings opportunities to stay engaged and stay connected. Be sure to explore the newsletter for community updates, local events, and small business highlights that continue to showcase the talent and spirit of North Avondale.

And please save the date:

NANA Christmas Party

December 13

6 PM to 9 PM

(Location will be announced soon)

It will be a joyful evening of community, celebration, and togetherness. The perfect way to close out a full and beautiful year.

I want to leave you with this:

We do not need a title to lead.

We do not need a campaign to make change.

We simply need each other.

North Avondale continues to be the example of what a neighborhood should be: connected, compassionate, and strong.

With gratitude and a full heart,

Dawn Johnson

President, North Avondale Neighborhood Association
