President’s Message – September 2025

“The strength of a community lies not in its ability to hold space for difference, but in its ability to move forward together.” – Unknown

Dear North Avondale Family,

September brings us back together. After our two month recess, I am so looking forward to gathering with you in person at our General Body Meeting on Tuesday, September 9 at 6:30 PM at the North Avondale Recreation Center.

Though our larger meetings paused, the work did not stop. The Executive Board continued to meet and has been laying the groundwork for exciting updates in the months ahead. From advancing the Historic District process, to refining our Master Plan, to building the foundation for our Community Development Corporation, we are moving forward in a wonderful, harmonious, and unified flow. I could not be more honored to work alongside such talented and committed neighbors and board members.

This month’s newsletter highlights remind us of the unique spirit that makes North Avondale so special. We honor our history, like Clinton Springs and the famous waters that once drew visitors from near and far. We celebrate our institutions, like The New School Montessori, which continues to nurture creativity and curiosity in our children. And we lift up the ongoing work of neighbors who give their time to beautification and care for our gardens, a visible reminder of the love we share for this place.

At our September meeting, we will hear updates from our committees, share progress on the Master Plan and Historic Designation, and welcome a guest presentation on the Brent Spence Bridge Project. We will also hear from candidates offering themselves for leadership, a reminder that this association is strongest when we embrace service rooted in humility and love for this neighborhood.

North Avondale is more than streets and houses. It is the people who breathe life into it every day. Every act of service, every committee meeting, every flower planted and every kind word spoken is a thread in the tapestry of who we are.

Let us step into this fall season with renewed energy, ready to honor our past while building our shared future. Together, we are cultivating a community of resilience, compassion, and belonging.

With love and gratitude,

Dawn Johnson

President, North Avondale Neighborhood Association
