Zoning in North Avondale to be Eliminated

I have learned that the City is applying for a $2,000,000 HUD grant to implement the actions provided for in the City’s “Connected Communities” Ordinance which was passed in June, 2024.  As you may recall, this Ordinance provided for the elimination of single family zoning and replaced it with multifamily housing on properties for 1/2 of a mile on either side of Reading Road. This was to provide “gentle density” housing in single family zones to accommodate needed “affordable housing”.

If this HUD Grant is approved, it would dramatically change North Avondale as we know it.

I recommend that NANA invite City representatives and Council members to a NANA meeting to more fully explain the purpose of this HUD grant and how it will affect North Avondale.
