No reservations required: Free summer meals for youth at area recreation centers and libraries

Children 18 and under can receive nutritious meals and snacks this summer thanks to the SUN Meals Program offered by the USDA. There is no need to register in advance.

Daily breakfasts are served at North Avondale Recreation Center, 617 Clinton Springs, from 9-9:30 a.m. and at Hirsch Recreation Center, 3630 Reading Road, from 9:15-9:45 a.m. Both recreation centers provide lunches at noon. Click here to learn more about the SUN summer food program.

Other nearby locations offering free breakfasts and lunches to area youth include Bond Hill Recreation Center and Friar’s Club in St. Bernard. Click here for a complete list of recreation centers, schools and non-profits participating in SUN Meals. Some sites are offering free dinners.

Area libraries are also offering meals Monday through Friday. Lunches at the Avondale Branch, 3566 Reading Road, are from 12:15-1 p.m. Avondale is also providing snacks from 3:30-4 p.m. Free meals at the St. Bernard library are from 2-2:45 p.m. Both locations’ meal programs extend through August 13, 2024.
