On August 8, the City and its contractor, Urban Fast Forward (UFF), presented the draft visions and addressed goals and priorities identified over months of community outreach at a public meeting held at the Avondale Business Center. The Master Plan steering committee meeting, held September 5, 2024, centered on preparing a written response to those concepts developed by the UFF team.
The greenspace plan prepared by UFF team member Human Nature was very well received and, with some adjustments by our Beautification committee, has been used to assist in preparing our Community Budget Requests (CBRs). These CBRs are requests to the City for funding for specific projects our community would like to prioritize. The new playground and improvements to the fields and tennis area at the North Avondale Recreation Center were funded by previous CBRs. We would like to see continued updates to the Recreation Center’s outdoor spaces as well as large improvements at Seasongood Square.
Other areas were not as well received:
- The Master Plan team felt that the transportation section was incomplete at best.
- A four-corner plan for Paddock and Reading development was reviewed. While interesting, the plan required major adjustments to development density, inclusion of commercial space and inconsistencies with the Urban Development Overlay Plan that called for removing Barry Lane from this development. The steering committee is working on drafting written comments to ensure that our concerns are properly heard.
