Happy February! North Avondale looked like real winter this morning with the new overnight snow, although when the sun came out, most of it melted away pretty quickly! So far we have had a relatively easy winter, and we can just hope this will continue until spring. Thanks J Miles for the pictures!
We are excited about entering 2015 with a strong calendar of activities focused on enjoying and improving our neighborhood and making sure we stay engaged with what is going on in the city and in the neighborhoods around us. We also want to make our neighborhood voice heard in City Hall.
This started in November and December with City Manager Black and Vice Mayor Mann as guests at our General Meetings. In January, we hosted Janelle Lee from the Uptown Consortium, Inc. and Cinnamon Pelly from the Community Builders, Inc., who presented their organizations and initiatives in Avondale, Clifton, and Corryville. It was great to hear about what their organizations are doing, and to get some insight into some very successful completed projects in our neighboring communities to the south. Personally, I found their enthusiasm for their projects and how they are engaging with the residents very positive and probably a significant factor for success. Thanks to all of our guests, and also to NANA’s VP Marvin Masterson for setting this up on behalf of NANA.
On March 7th, the annual Neighborhood Summit will take place at the Cintas Center at Xavier University. This is organized by Invest in Neighborhoods in partnership with the City of Cincinnati and a number of other organizations, and is
the annual event which brings together hundreds of community leaders and volunteers, city officials and nonprofits in a day long series of seminars and workshops aimed at helping citizens work effectively together to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods. NANA will be represented, and let me or any of our board members know if you would be interested in attending or register at www.investinneighborhoods.com/summit.html. when this link is up and running. (See below for more information)
At the General Meeting on February 10th, we plan to present the 2015 NANA calendar and the 2015 activities of the various NANA committees and we will also highlight our business association NABA. This will be an informative meeting for all neighbors, and also a great opportunity to bring up your ideas, small or large, and to find out ways you can help to improve North Avondale. We would love more volunteers for our neighborhood projects, and please note that even just an hour now and then is tremendously helpful.
In the meantime, please visit our website northavondalecincinnati.com for general info, committee updates, and to pay your 2015 NANA dues online.
