Hello spring! May is a busy month for North Avondale. The NA gardens are in bloom for all to enjoy. Make sure you stop to say how much you appreciate the volunteers who make them beautiful. Many neighbors have high school students that need volunteer hours. Please check out the new NANA volunteer work program to sign up for hours to boost their work resumes and college applications. The student’s work will begin in the Washington Triangle garden and then on to Seasongood Square for our North Avondale Green Up day on May 20th, 9:00am until noon. Everyone is welcome to join us for mulching and litter patrols. Pizza will be served at 11:30.
Get involved in our neighborhood and join the monthly NANA general meetings which are held the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the North Avondale Montessori cafeteria. During the summer months, we meet at the North Avondale Recreation Center.
NANA and Paddock Hills lost the zoning appeal opposing the city’s zoning approval on the proposed development at Victory Parkway and Asmann Ave., despite the impact on the Hillside Overlay District and the environmental impact to our air quality. Interestingly, I have been contacted in the last two weeks by two different developers to discuss “opportunities” in our neighborhood. Stay tuned.
The NANA Annual Meeting is Sunday, May 21st, from 3:00-5:00 pm at The New School Montessori on Burton Woods Lane. We plan to vote and install our 2023-24 Board. There will be a showing of Laure Quinlivan’s shortened version of the “Living with Landslides” documentary. Light appetizers and refreshments will be served. Come and enjoy some quality time with your neighbors.
NANA asks that each of you add us to your annual gift-giving list. Visit here to join, pay dues or make a donation. We need your support to continue making our neighborhood a better place to live and raise our families.
