President’s Message – February 2026

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

Margaret Mead

Dear North Avondale Family,

February invites us to pause and take notice of the quiet ways growth is happening all around us. While winter still holds us in its grip, there is so much movement beneath the surface — learning, independence, creativity, and care — all unfolding in ways that remind us how deeply connected we are as a community.

This month’s newsletter beautifully captures that spirit. At The New School Montessori, we see independence nurtured with intention and trust. From pouring milk and preparing food to presenting research and navigating public transportation, our children are learning not just academic skills, but confidence, responsibility, and self-belief. These lessons extend far beyond the classroom. They are seeds being planted for thoughtful, capable, and compassionate citizens — and it is a joy to witness that growth happening right here in our neighborhood.

We are also reminded of the simple wonders that surround us. The Lenox Place visitors shared this month offer a quiet moment of connection to nature, a reminder that even in winter, life is present, watchful, and resilient. These moments encourage us to slow down, look around, and appreciate the beauty that exists alongside us every day.

Community life continues in so many practical and meaningful ways as well. From music lessons and shared skills in the Classifieds, to the many recreational opportunities offered through the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, there are countless ways for neighbors of all ages to stay engaged, active, and connected. These offerings reflect the heart of North Avondale — a place where talents are shared, support is offered, and opportunities are created for one another.

As we move through February, let us continue doing our part, right where we are. Whether that looks like encouraging a child’s independence, supporting a neighbor’s small business, spending time outdoors, or simply showing up with kindness, every act matters. Together, these small moments of care create the strong, vibrant community we are so proud to call home.

Thank you for all the ways you contribute — seen and unseen — to the life of North Avondale. I am grateful for each of you, and I look forward to all that we will continue building together.

With gratitude and warmth,

Dawn Johnson
President, North Avondale Neighborhood Association
