My name is Reg Crutcher, and I was recently appointed President of NANA, succeeding Dawn Johnson as her term concluded. Many thanks to Dawn for her leadership and service over the past two years!
I thought I would take this opportunity to briefly introduce myself. I have been a North Avondale resident since 1988, when my parents moved here. My wife and I purchased our home in the neighborhood in 2009, where we now live with our four children, my father, and the occasional UC exchange student. Three of our children attend Cincinnati Public Schools, including Walnut Hills High School, and my wife is a Montessori teacher with CPS. We are both graduates of Walnut Hills and the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP program. I currently work at Procter & Gamble, where I have spent the past 22 years in R&D and design roles.
As I mentioned at the recent NANA Annual Meeting, I have three priorities I would like to focus on during my time as President: Neighborhood Preservation, Safety, and Social Connections. Neighborhood Preservation is an important topic for our neighborhood, and you can find more of my thoughts in my opinion piece later in this newsletter. I look forward to sharing more about the other two priorities in future editions.

We will be having a Q&A session for Historic Designation (HD) on July 14 at 6:30-8pm at the Avon Woods Nature Preserve. The goal of the session is for you to come with a specific project that you want to do to your home and get guidance on whether or not HD would impact it or not. It will be best if you have pictures of your home from your street with you as well. We will also share a simple flowchart that helps provide a framework for understanding what kinds of home projects HD might impact.
Please note that this coming Tuesday’s (June 9) general meeting is at 6 at the NA Rec center (instead of 6:30) to accommodate the NA rec’s centers summer hours. It will be a shorter meeting as well, primarily focused on reviewing and approving this year’s committee positions.
NANA is also looking for a Communications Coordinator. If you enjoy writing, editing, social media, or helping neighbors stay informed, this is a great opportunity to serve the community and stay connected to what’s happening in North Avondale. If you’re interested, please visit our volunteer page to learn more and sign up.
